Overview
Lawato is a CRM and practice management platform for law firms. It replaces the usual mix of a CRM, a spreadsheet for hours and a separate invoicing tool with a single product.
Clients, cases, tasks, time entries and invoices share one data model, so time logged against a case counts toward its budget and can be invoiced without entering anything twice.
What I did
- Joined as a Senior Full-Stack Engineer in 2021 and led the engineering team from 2022 to 2024
- Designed CRM modules, API contracts, data models and integrations
- Built application logic and APIs across the frontend and backend
- Owned technical planning, estimates and trade-offs, code review and release readiness
- Refactored high-change areas and resolved production issues
Features
01
Time tracking
Running timers and manual entries are logged against a client or case and marked billable or non-billable, so the day’s hours are already split by matter.
02
Invoicing from tracked time
An invoice is built by selecting a client’s unbilled time entries. Amounts follow from the logged hours, VAT is applied, and the invoice is exported as a PDF.
03
Case budgets
A case can carry a budget. Logged time is counted against it, and cases that run over are flagged.
04
Client workspace
Everything about a client sits on one page: budget usage, billable time this month, open tasks, cases, invoices, notes and billing rates.
05
Client pipeline
Prospective clients move from prospecting through proposal and negotiation to a closed deal, with the expected value of each stage totalled.
